Deputy Minister Of Foreign Affairs Meets Potential Strategic Partners

Cairo, Egypt – As part of the preparation for “The Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development”, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a meeting with potential strategic partners on 30 May 2019.

The meeting was presided over by H.E. Ambassador Hamdy Loza, Deputy Foreign Minister for African Affairs, who briefed the participants on the ongoing preparations for hosting the Forum, to be held on 11-12 December 2019 under the auspices of H.E. President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

The meeting was attended by representatives of foreign embassies in Cairo including Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and US. Also in attendance were representatives from the World Bank, the European Union Delegation, UN Women, African Development bank (AfDB), UNESCO, UNDP, IOM and UNHCR.

The attendees commended the launch of the Aswan Forum, as a timely initiative, as Africa approaches the end of the APSA Roadmap (2016-2020) and the Master Roadmap of Practical Steps to Silence the Guns next year. Participants also highlighted the importance of bringing together relevant peace and security, development and humanitarian actors to overcome these challenges in an integrated and coherent manner. “The Forum aims to operationalize the interlinkages between the “sustainable development” and the “sustaining peace” agendas in the African context.
